Loreburn student demonstrates real-world skills in job placement at the James Hotel

Success is what Lance Hefervez has been cooking!

Lance is a grade twelve student from Loreburn Central School who was recently able to develop and enhance trade-specific and transferable skills through a work placement at the James Hotel in Saskatoon.

Lance is very talented in the kitchen and he is interested in pursuing a career as a Chef. Sun West offers a variety of work-based learning opportunities including the Career and Work Exploration (CWEX) A30 course, which Lance is enrolled in this semester.

Lance’s CWEX teacher, Mr. Johnson secured him a work placement in the kitchen of the James Hotel. There Lance was able to enhance his culinary skills while also receiving real-world experience in an environment that fostered self-confidence, the acquiring of 21 st Century skills as well as an awareness of the needs of businesses and industries that employ chefs.

Lance excelled in his work placement. Younes Skouta, the Executive Chef was so impressed that he hopes to hire Lance after he graduates. Lance plans on becoming an apprentice chef after graduating and getting his journeyperson certificate, so, he can become an Executive Chef in the future.

Great work Lance and congratulations on a very successful placement experience!
