Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The school year is underway and we are thrilled to have your children Return to Learn with us. We understand and appreciate the trust you have placed in us. You can be confident that we are taking all necessary measures to protect your children’s health and safety while also making sure school is a warm and welcoming place. While safety is paramount your children are emerging, young scholars.
We are committed to prepare all students to be successful within and beyond the classroom. This promise was clarified in Sun West’s 2019-22 Educational Plan that established Achievement, Engagement and Well-being as our key priorities. We can assure you that students will grow in these areas despite the issues created by the current pandemic. The suspension of regular classes this spring created learning gaps, but we aim to have all students caught up by the start of the 2021-22 school year.
While students were considering supplemental learning, the staff was invested in professional development. Sun West School Division have been building opportunities for success for our students through the Personalized electronically Blended Learning (PeBL) philosophy over the last several years. The staff focus on outcomes and dedication to responding to learner needs and interests are an effective combination. Using the PeBL philosophy and Sun West Resource Bank, Sun West staff are in an excellent position to create motivating and engaging opportunities that will allow students to:
- work in a team
- make decisions
- solve problems and
- fail safely and try again.
Extra-curricular activities are a significant part of student life. The skill enhancement, the character development and the relationships forged through recreation and sport, music and the arts, academic challenges, inclusive groups and many other experiences are priceless. The Sun West staff and administration are patiently investigating how, what, where and when these extra-curr opportunities can occur.
These are challenging times. This year will be unlike any other and 2020-21 is full of promise. Please celebrate the Return to Learn with us as we learn together and strive for success for all.
