Clay Allinson, Grade 12, Beechy School
When I was younger, I was in 4-H for two years. This was the beginning of my leadership experiences. I learned about leadership from the people in front of me in my club, both the leaders and members. Later, in Grade 7, I started on the Student Representative Council (SRC). I was a member for two years and then became treasurer for Grades 9 and 10 and both treasurer and president for Grades 11 and 12. My SRC experiences got me involved with the Sun West Student Leadership Program, which showed me the world of leadership conferences.
I have been a part of the planning of three Sun West Student Leadership Conferences and I have attended both the provincial and national leadership conferences, in Langenburg, Saskatchewan and Abbottsford, British Columbia. These conferences have given me a chance to meet new people, make new friends and learn more about myself as a leader. Leadership gives me an opportunity to open up to new people, meet new friends and build my leadership skills for my future.
