Parent and community involvement in education are crucial to student success, which is why engagement is one of the three main priorities in the Sun West Education Plan. Sun West encourages involvement through School Community Councils and partners with parents and the community in many ways to improve the quality of education offered in each Sun West school.
Promising Practices for Meaningful Family Engagement is a 2020 report published by the McDowell Foundation based on the work of three Sun West teachers. The video above describes the findings of the report.

Each teacher sought to establish and communicate a host of possible practices that are central to engaging families to support student learning. Their project proposal asks, “What practices offer possibilities for the meaningful engagement of parents?” and seeks as well to understand, “What are the critical elements of these practices that contribute to success?”
