Building authentic and respectful relationships with Indigenous peoples is a priority for Sun West.

Sun West recognizes that reconciliation is a life-long journey, and is committed to continually learning and growing together. Sun West aims to engage all students in their personalized growth in knowledge and experience of Indigenous Perspectives.

We do this by focusing on the following goals:

  • Infusing Indigenous Perspectives throughout K-12 curriculum.
  • Supporting staff growth and understanding of authentic Indigenous Perspectives.
  • Building confidence in all Sun West students and staff related to Truth and Reconciliation.
  • Increase understanding of Indigenous Perspectives as well as respond to the Calls to Action concerning education in the Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Committee.

The Sun West Indigenous Perspectives Learning Consultant provides professional learning opportunities for teachers and visits classrooms to teach students about Indigenous culture and history.

We are guided by the Inspiring Success: Pre-K-12 First Nations and Métis Education Policy Framework; and the Animating The Inspiring Success Policy Framework: An Education Sector Indigenous Education Responsibility Framework.
