Sun West Board of Education members participated in the annual School Community Council (SCC)Chairs meeting on January 28 in Rosetown. Trustees, Michele Whitfield, Michelle Zacharias, Fritz Eckstein, Terry Hall, Karen Blackwell Jones, Holly Goddard and Cathy Morrow attended along with SCC members, Senior Division Leadership, and school-based administrators from most Sun West schools.

On January14, the Board gathered for an extensive one-day orientation session introducing Trustees to all major elements of Sun West educational programming including Learning in Sun West, which included 21st Century Skills, PeBL, Reading and Math initiatives, Indigenous Perspectives, Assessment and the Division Education Plan. Also covered were Student Support Services, Colony Education, Distance Learning, Early Years, Career Development, Student Leadership, Mental Health and Well-being, School Community Councils, Family Engagement, Athletics, and Educational Leadership.

The Board of Education held its regular meeting on January 28, 2025.  Items discussed and reviewed at the meeting included:

At the request of the Sun West Student Leadership Youth Consultation Team, the Board designated March 9-15, 2025, as Multiculturalism Week in Sun West schools. Information about potential activities will be sent to schools by the Youth Consultation Team.

The Board heard the Student Support Services Report that covered staffing and staff workload, challenges created by increasing demand for services, and plans to address these challenges.
