Three Sun West Board of Education members attended their last meeting as Trustees on October 22. Long-serving Trustees, Karen Itterman(Subdivision 3), Ruth Griffith (Subdivision 9) and Sue Lytle (Subdivision 4)received heartfelt tributes from their colleagues and senior management and for their part expressed gratitude for all the support and friendship they had received over the years.
Griffith, who had previously been a member of the Legacy Kindersley School Division, was a member of the original Sun West School Division Board of Education that was first elected in 2005 and was in place when Sun West was officially formed in 2006. She served continuously on the Board until this year, when she decided not to seek re-election.
Itterman, who had been a member of the Legacy Biggar School Division, was also part of the original Sun West Board of Education and served continuously, except from 2008 to 2012, until this year when she decided not to seek re-election. She also served as Board Chair from 2012 to 2020.
Lytle first joined the Board of Education in 2016 and served continuously since then until this year when she decided to not seek re-election.
Board Chair John Collins commented on how different the Board will be without them and how important their contributions have been over the years. He said, “We have not always agreed but at the end of the day, everyone’s opinion is valuable.”
Director of Education Vicki Moore thanked the departing Board members for always putting students first and for being supportive of parents, community members and staff. “You always made us all feel so welcome and in difficult times, especially during COVID, you provided stability. We had tough things but with your help it was ok – we got through them.”
The departing Board members had the opportunity to lookback on their times on the Board in an interview that is featured below.
