One of the most dynamic duos in the West Central Sports World is Kyle Composite School’s Champion Golfer Chloe Wills and her coach KCS teacher Keisha Padayachee.
Ms. Padayachee coaches both the Junior and Senior Golf Teams at KCS. The team members are Caden Dawe, Chloe Wills, Nixon Smith and Jace Wills. KCS is a golf powerhouse with Chloe winning West Central Districts for the last two years and Jace tying for third this season. Chloe was part of the West Central Senior Girls Team that won Gold at Provincials this year and Chloe won Silver as an individual competitor.
Ms. Padayachee states: “I coach because I enjoy building relationships with students outside of the classroom. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch my students grow and learn, whether they’re tackling academic challenges or developing new skills in other areas. I love cheering them on as they strive to reach their potential and achieve their goals in all aspects of their lives!”
Ms. Padayachee commented about her approach to coaching Chloe Wills. “Chloe has put in a lot of hard work outside of school golf and has amazing people coaching and helping her reach her goals, so I refer to myself as her golf "cheerleader" rather than her coach,” she explained. “I feel honoured and grateful that she has let me follow her around the golf course, cheering her on, for all these years. I can't wait to hear about her growth and successes in this sport in the future!”
Chloe commented “I love playing a variety of sports and have grown up playing most the school sports. I am proud to represent Kyle school at my events. I think being from a small town gives school sports a lot more importance to me because I have so many people supporting me and cheering me on, so they mean a lot to me.”
Chole hopes to earn a scholarship to play college golf in the United States. She said: “I hope to improve my game and skills and grow as a golfer and person while furthering my academics.”
Chloe explained that some good advice she once received from a coach was: “Try to get 1% better each day, which can really apply in any aspect of your life. I think it’s important to remember even a little bit each day can help you reach your goals.” Some other coaching advise that she took to hear was to “. . . let your skills (not emotions) guide your round and focus on the process not the outcome. For me especially in golf this is really important to remember because if I get down on myself, and am not mentally strong, it makes it a lot harder to succeed.”
Ms. Padayachee and Chloe Wills are an excellent example of an awesome coach-athlete relationship!
